Congrats to Our Ski Spec Winner, Kaelyn Hamel!

We're so excited to announce that Kaelyn Hamel will soon be hitting the slopes with her family and Move United at the Hartford Ski Spectacular! Check out this awesome video of her mom giving her and her brother the exciting news!

Words from Kaelyn's mom, Angela:

Kaelyn, like many kiddos with disabilities, lives in a very inaccessible world, and the day-to-day challenges are daunting. The older my child gets, and she is 14 years old, her frustration grows with the state of inaccessibility. This impacts our family greatly because we love the outdoors.

Insert our love for adapted recreation — anytime we have an opportunity to work with a team member that has equipment or has been trained to work with disabled people, we get to spend time as a family unit sharing experiences that are hard to come by (not to mention the cost). It's rarely free; it's usually more expensive.

We love to ski. Kaelyn is an adrenaline junky, and we have not been able to afford more than a weekend getaway.

Then there is the impact it has on Kaelyn's younger brother, who is 5 years old. This kiddo has missed birthday parties and the like because of Kaelyn's medical and therapy appointments. We, of course, do our best to find balance, but we have to travel for treatments, and when we get to do fun stuff like this, he feels included and also gets to see his disabled sister participate in sports and recreation. He is framing the conversation for the future of how we speak about the disabled community. He is the future, and he knows how capable his sister is.

He believes beyond her ability in a wheelchair because of adapted skiing.

Congrats, Kaelyn! 2LIV4 can't wait to hear about your adventure!
